The FairNature project is looking for real-world examples of innovative ways of funding and financing nature-based solutions (NbS) and biodiversity. The online survey takes about 15 minutes and is open until 4 December 2026.
FairNature is a research project exploring how nature-based solutions can be scaled effectively and fairly, funded by Biodiversa+. We are looking for real-world examples of innovative ways of funding and financing NbS and biodiversity.
Innovation does not have to mean a completely new financial instrument. It may involve adapting an established instrument, creating a new market, bringing actors together in a new way (e.g. to share risk), recognising benefits that are usually overlooked by markets, or combining existing funding sources differently than has previously been done.
The survey will help us to:
- identify interesting examples for further research;
- understand why different actors participate in these arrangements; and
- refine our understanding of what “financial innovation” for NbS looks like in practice.
Filling out the survey provides a chance to the real-world cases to be included in a published guidance document of the FairNature project.
The survey is open until 4 December 2026: https://ecologic.limesurvey.net/fairnature
