On 10 September 2019, the final conference of the project "Mikroplastik im Wasserkreislauf" (Microplastics in the Water Cycle, MaWi for short) took place in Karlsruhe. The project results were presented and discussed at the event. A poster exhibition was also organized as part of the conference. Some of the posters are available on the event website.

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funded the MiWa-project for three years, in which a total of eleven project partners conducted analytical research on the topic of microplastics in fresh water and discussed the effects on humans and aquatic organisms. As a joint effort, research methods and results were to be further developed in order to ensure a reliable data set and a better understanding of microplastics in the water cycle on a long term basis.
