Speech

Doris Knoblauch gave a presentation on plastic waste at the Freudberg School in Berlin on 9 December 2020. The lecture took place as part of the "Plastic Pirates" project.

Why do we use so a lot of plastic? How does plastic get into the environment? What can we do about it? Who are the "plastic pirates"?

Doris discussed questions like these with the fourth graders during her presentation. She also discussed the many advantages of plastic: as a light, stable, easy to shape, cheap to produce and long-lasting material, it is a real all-rounder. On the other hand, Doris pointed out the problem with plastic waste, which can be found everywhere in our environment. She also talked to the students about solutions, such as the 3R rule ("Reduce", "Reuse", "Recycle"), and presented the mission of the "Plastic Pirates". The pupils were invited to participate in the project.
