Ecologic Institute, in partnership with Ramboll and I4CE, continued its collaboration with the European Environment Agency in supporting the understanding of costs of climate impacts and climate adaptation. The overall aim of this study was to extract, complement and compile quantitative information on the economic costs and socio-economic impacts of climate adaptation versus costs of inaction in EU27 Member States. The work builds on previous work conducted by the consortium for the EEA which served as the methodological foundation for this project.
The key tasks were:
- to extract and compile quantitative information from existing sources (studies, reports etc.), and to provide input for a questionnaire for EEA member countries;
- to design a suitable methodology for complementing data derived under 1. with estimates and projections;
- to compile all quantitative information into a dataset, allowing for filtering by different variables/breakdowns, as well as aggregation into different (sub-)totals.
The above is summarised in the EEA report "Knowledge Development and Application Concerning Costs of Adaptation Compard to Costs of Inaction".
Ecologic Institute was primarily involved in task 1, supporting the literature review on available data on costs of inaction and adaptation.
