This report surveys the WTO rules relating to sustainable forest management. The first version was prepared for distribution at the 4th WTO Ministerial Conference in Doha, and the final version was presented at the second session of the UN Forum on Forests.

The issue of financial transfers to developing countries is an integral part of the negotiations on completing the "unfinished business" of the Kyoto Protocol (KP) of 1997 to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC). Ecologic examines how such a Special Climate Change Fund could be developed and implemented.

Transatlantic co-operation between the US and EU Member States has an important role to play in the system of international environmental policymaking. Greater transatlantic leadership coupled with extensive consultation of developing countries would greatly enhance policymaking capacities in the system of international environmental governance.

In cooperation with the European SUSTRA-Network Ecologic analyses the relationship between trade, environment and sustainable development. As a part of the project, Ecologic convened an international workshop on the architecture of global governance of trade and sustainable development which focussed on the global institutional set-up, the relationship between multilateral environmental agreements and WTO rules as well as the role of non-State actors in the international fora. The results of the workshop were summarised and published in a policy brief.

The present analysis of Romania's environmental policy was carried out within the context of preparations for the country's desired EU accession. It is an exploratory attempt to document the current status of harmonisation of environmental legislation in light of the relevant political, economic, legal and social framework.

The Working Group on "Emissions Trading as a Means to Combat the Impacts of Greenhouse Gases" has been created according to the German Federal Government's Climate Protection Programme of 18 October 2000. Its aim is to evaluate the possibilities of establishing a national emissions trading system, which takes into account existing national instruments, the European concept of emission trading as well as the Climate Framework Convention and the Kyoto-Protocol.
