Events

Our events are central to our mission. Through them, we foster dialogue between science, politics, practice and the public, creating spaces where knowledge and perspectives meet. We act as a convener, bringing different stakeholders together to co-develop solutions for resilient societies and thriving ecosystems. This page features our own events, including recordings, summaries, and supplementary materials. 

In addition, we contribute to other events by moderating them, giving presentations at them and participating in panel discussions. You can find more information about this under Presentations.

At the MoorNet Final Conference 2025, results and approaches from the research and development project will be presented. The event will also offer space to discuss further developments and identify additional needs for action. Key topics will include overcoming implementation barriers, funding issues, and the need for communication strategies and networking concepts to strengthen and accelerate the rewetting of peatlands.

On 23 September 2025, experts from policy, finance, research, and civil society gathered in Berlin for the technical workshop “Opportunities and Limits of Nature-based Solutions”, hosted by the Fair Finance Institute. The event aimed to highlight and critically discuss the risks and potentials of nature-based solutions (NbS). The focus was on how financing for NbS can be made more effective and equitable, tapping the potential to deliver on sustainable development worldwide, protect biodiversity, and empower people in countries of the Global South. Ecologic Institute’s McKenna Davis opened the event with a keynote address entitled “Nature-based Solutions: More than just green? What counts, what works, and what is missing.” The event was organised with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and support from GLS Bank and Engagement Global as part of an ongoing project.

The adoption of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation (NRR) marks a turning point in European biodiversity policy. To meet its binding targets, all Member States must prepare National Restoration Plans (NRPs) by 2026 – with a dedicated focus on cross-border cooperation. Against this backdrop, the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), the Alpine Convention, and Ecologic Institute convened the international online workshop "Synergies for Nature Restoration in the Alpine Region" on 4 September 2025.

Three years have already flown away, and it is time to look back at our achievements. The final conference of the NICHES project took place online on 24 March 2025. This one-day event provided an overview of the project's innovative work, focusing on the progress toward advancing nature-based transformations of urban water systems. The MoorNet conference in Bonn will focus on synergies and conflicting objectives in connection with the rewetting of degraded and near-natural peatlands. Peatlands are unique habitats for highly specialised animal and plant species, and their protection plays a decisive role in climate protection and other environmental goals. The event will take place on 19 and 20 November 2024 at the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation in Bonn. The aim is to gain an overview of current and future synergies and conflict solutions in the field of nature conservation. The event is aimed in particular at stakeholders who are specifically concerned with synergies and conflicting goals in the practical implementation of peatland protection.
