Senior Financial Controller

Our mission is to contribute to shaping a more sustainable world through science, research and policy advice. Our clients include the EU Commission, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and foundations. The Institute collaborates with partners both in Germany and internationally on numerous research projects.

We are looking for an experienced Controller to coordinate the Institute’s budgeting and reporting activities, with the ambition to grow into a deputy management role in our Finance Team.

Your tasks:

  • Close cooperation with the management and the Head of Finance in the commercial management of the Institute
  • Responsibility for quarterly financial statements and monthly reporting as well as supporting the finance management in preparing the annual financial statements
  • Supporting financial management in the preparation of budgets and forecasts as well as liquidity planning
  • Ad hoc analyses and special evaluations for project and department managers
  • Monitoring cost centre and cost unit accounting as well as determining and analysing unit cost hourly rates and overhead rates
  • Close cooperation with project controlling, including the provision of costing approaches for project controllers and consolidation of project-related financial data

Your profile:

  • University degree in economics, preferably with a focus on controlling/finance
  • Several years of relevant professional experience
  • Sound knowledge of accounting, preferably through auditing experience
  • Experience with research institutes and/or non-profit organisations is a plus
  • Strong analytical thinking skills
  • Very good application knowledge of Excel including Power Query/ Power BI
  • Very good German and English language skills
  • A structured and results-orientated way of working and a high level of responsibility
  • In addition, you are a team player with strong communication and implementation skills who likes to show initiative and can quickly familiarise yourself with new topics

  • We offer you a permanent full-time or part-time employment contract, at least 32 hours per week.
