Dr. Grit Martinez, Fellow at Ecologic Institute and Advisor to the Water Integrity Network, moderated the seminar "Beyond Water Bribes: How to build a Corruption-Resistant Water Sector?" at the 5th World Water Forum in Istanbul on 18 March 2009. Ecologic Institute had already co-convened an awareness-raising event showcasing the new Water Integrity Network (WIN) at the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico.

<p> During the Climate Negotiation Summit in Pozn&agrave;n, Poland, on 10 December 2008, R. Andreas Kraemer of Ecologic moderated a Side Event of the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the French Presidency of the European Union on &quot;Delivering on the EU&#39;s Climate Commitments: State of Play of Europe&#39;s New Climate and Energy Legislation&quot;.</p>

The event explored how aviation activities will be included in the EU&#39;s Emissions Trading Scheme from 1 January 2012 and provided details of the next steps for implementation.</p>

Andreas Kraemer of Ecologic Institute moderated the event.

In March 2006, the German government cabinet adopted the "Modernisation Report for the German Water Sector". The report does not yet contain a specific modernisation strategy, but formed the basis for discussions at the 7th Congress of Municipal Utilities of the German Association of Municipal Utilities on 29 November 2006. R. Andreas Kraemer of Ecologic moderated the debate about the question, how the traditional form of urban utility management can remain a successful model for the provision of good conditions for environmental, social and economic development in towns and cities.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), a symposium was held in Berlin on 6 June 2006. Camilla Bausch chaired the Forum on "European and International Environmental Policy".

The current and future impact of the European Union on the sustainable development of its neighbours to the south and east and proposals for the future direction of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) were the themes of this session that took place at the 2006 Annual Conference of the European Foundation Centre (EFC). During the event an Ecologic Brief on European Neighbourhood Policy , written by Sascha Müller-Kraenner, was launched.

"Ambitious Environmental Policy – The Basis for Sustainable Industrial Development" was the theme of a Side Event at the 14th Session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) in New York on 11 May 2006. It addressed the relations between business and policy-making, and the role of regulation and dynamics of change in China and Germany. German environment minister Sigmar Gabriel opened the event, chaired by R. Andreas Kraemer.

The Directorate-General Trade of the European Commission held its "Trade Sustainability Impact Assessment Stocktaking Conference: Implementing Sustainable Trade" in Brussels on 21-22 March 2006. R. Andreas Kraemer chaired the key first session looking at the extent to which Trade Sustainability Impact Assessments (SIAs) have changed the way the European Union makes trade policy.

Ecologic Institute, as a Member of the Bellagio Forum for Sustainable Development (BFSD), partnered with the World Conservation Union (IUCN) and Transparency International (TI) to convene an awareness-raising event showcasing the new Water Integrity Network (WIN) at the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico. It highlighted the importance of improving integrity and governance structures in the sector, as a precondition for meeting the ambitious Millennium Development Goals.

The ongoing world trade negotiations are expected to have significant impact on sustainable development and the production and consumption patterns world-wide. After the Meeting of Trade Ministers in Hong Kong at the end of 2005, Chatham House convened a conference on 6 and 7 February 2006 to look at the WTO as well as the Sustainable Development Agenda and its prospects after Hong Kong. R. Andreas Kraemer of Ecologic chaired a key session on NAMA, IPRs, and Services.

In environmental matters, modern society is living at the cost to future generations. This was the main issue discussed at the Young Leaders Congress 2005 "Ecological Generational Justice into the Constitution", which brought together more than 50 participants from all over Europe and beyond. At the event, Ecologic Fellow Markus Knigge chaired a panel discussion with Karsten Sach, Head of the Division for International Affairs in the German Ministry for the Environment, and Manfred Bergman, Head of the Unit for Evaluation of Transport, Environment and Energy in the European Commission, on where we are in achieving ecological generational justice in Europe.

The German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE), together with GTZ, convened a German National Conference on Sustainability in the Context of BRICS+G. R. Andreas Kraemer moderated the event on 9 June 2005. The national conference was held in preparation of an international conference including Brazil, Russia, India, and China in Berlin on 4 and 5 September 2005.
