The STEER Diagnostic Water Governance Tool

watergovernancetool.eu
Ecologic Institute has recently launched the Diagnostic Water Governance Tool, which is aimed at both water governance practitioners and researchers around the world. The tool provides a diagnosis of case-specific water governance as well as recommendations of appropriate instruments, with a focus on coordination and cooperation improvement. The case-specific suggestions for appropriate instruments are based on an algorithm that is grounded in the empirical findings of the STEER research project. This is a unique and innovative feature of the Diagnostic Water Governance Tool, which sets it apart from existing online tools for water governance and management. The Tool has been developed as part of the STEER project under the GRoW (Globale Ressource Wasser) program, founded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF, Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung). International Cooperation to Restore and Connect Urban Environments in Latin America and Europe (INTERLACE)

September 2020 to August 2024
Cities and their peripheries are constantly confronted with challenges such as urban sprawl, climate change and pollution. These processes can exacerbate the degradation of natural ecosystems, and jeopardize ecosystem service provisioning with negative consequences for human health and well-being, biodiversity, social cohesion and equity, and, finally, city resilience. The INTERLACE project brings together a unique consortium of European and Latin American partners to contribute to effectively restoring and rehabilitating urban ecosystems to make cities more livable, resilient and inclusive. The project aims to advance knowledge and awareness of restorative nature-based solutions (NBS), such as the restoration of wetlands and rivers, as well as to foster more ecologically coherent and integrated city planning processes. In addition, it lays the foundation for sustained multi-directional cooperation and exchange between European and Latin American cities for wider transformative impact.Read more

India's Draft Uniform EPR Framework Misses the Uniformity it Promised to Bring

This commentary contributes to the discussion on the recently released Draft Guidelines on Uniform Framework for Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) by India's Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The authors argue that the draft guidelines fall short of fulfilling its purpose for three reasons. Basing their recommendations on learnings from experiences of developed countries with mature EPR ecosystems and contextualizing the same for ground realities of India, authors provide a 6-point agenda to address the issues raised.Read more

Joint Implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement

May 2020 to January 2022
How to link the goals of the Agenda 2030, the Paris Convention, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Reduction and climate adaptation policies? The project examines synergies and challenges in the joint implementation of these processes. To this end, several papers, among others on "sustainable adaptation pathways", are prepared.
