In 2006, the European Community adopted a new regulation dealing with the geographical indications and designations of origin for agricultural products and foodstuffs. On 9-19 August 2007, a transatlantic Farmer-to-Farmer exchange program brought together 30 farmers, policy makers, scientists, and journalists from the United States and Europe with an agricultural background.
