On 18 October 2025, Ecologic Institute and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel) organised a panel discussion “Dynamic Ocean Management in Arctic Waters – New Dynamic with the BBNJ Agreement?” as part of the Arctic Circle Assembly 2025 in Reykjavik, Iceland. The panel, moderated by Fenja Kroos, Researcher at Ecologic Institute (Germany), brought together five experts to explore and discuss the potential for dynamic marine biodiversity conservation in areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) in the Arctic, as well as possible links to adjacent national jurisdictions.

Leveraging the Common Agricultural Policy to Accelerate Livestock Emission Reductions

On 25 September 2025, the Sowing Solutions: Science & Policy for a Sustainable and Thriving EU Agriculture event, organized by the Environmental Defense Fund Europe, explored these challenges. A dedicated session on "livestock methane in CAP Strategic Plans" brought together scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders to share evidence and discuss how the CAP can drive real impact. The goal was to spark fresh thinking, informed debate, and practical pathways forward.

Co-creating Nature-based Solutions with Commonly Excluded Stakeholders

This report highlights the persistent exclusion of commonly excluded stakeholders (CES) – such as marginalised communities, migrants, Indigenous peoples, youth, older adults, and those facing socio-economic vulnerabilities – from the co-creation of nature-based solutions (NbS). Inclusivity is shown to be essential for NbS to be legitimate, effective, and sustainable, yet CES often remain sidelined due to power asymmetries, structural disadvantages, rigid project cycles, and a lack of trust.

Ecologic Institute: Science and Policy for a Sustainable World

Ecologic Institute conducts inter- and transdisciplinary environmental research. In its role as a private, independent organization, Ecologic Institute is dedicated to the preparation of relevant sociopolitical aspects of sustainability research and contributing new knowledge to environmental policy. Innovative research methods, an orientation on practice and a transdisciplinary approach ensure scientific excellent and social relevance. The work done at Ecologic Institute covers the spectrum of environmental topics and includes the integration of environment-related issues into other political spheres.

Ecologic Institute was founded in 1995 and collaborates closely with other European and international bodies, including active participation as a member of the Ecological Research Network (Ecornet). Today, the more than 100 individuals at Ecologic Institute work in a variety of international and interdisciplinary project teams.
