Events

Our events are central to our mission. Through them, we foster dialogue between science, politics, practice and the public, creating spaces where knowledge and perspectives meet. We act as a convener, bringing different stakeholders together to co-develop solutions for resilient societies and thriving ecosystems. This page features our own events, including recordings, summaries, and supplementary materials.

In addition, we contribute to other events by moderating them, giving presentations at them and participating in panel discussions. You can find more information about this under Presentations.

Artificial intelligence promises greater efficiency and relief from routine tasks. At the same time, it requires substantial amounts of energy, water, and raw materials, reshapes how we work and learn, and creates new forms of technological dependency. In our latest Horizon Scan, we brought together representatives from academia, policy, and civil society to explore a central paradox of artificial intelligence: while AI enables efficiency and convenience, it also raises fundamental questions of dependency, autonomy, and responsibility.

On 4 December 2025, Ecologic Institute co-hosted a closed-door workshop in Brussels with DG CLIMA and the World Economic Forum. As part of the EU-Commission funded project Strategy for the Financing of Permanent Carbon Removals, more than 50 representatives from industry, finance, and EU institutions explored how to accelerate private purchases of high-quality permanent carbon removals (CDR). Early corporate purchasers highlighted three drivers: demonstrating climate leadership, meeting voluntary net-zero targets, and positioning themselves for emerging business opportunities in permanent removals. Participants pointed to high costs, reputational concerns, complex contracting, and policy uncertainty as key obstacles. Many stressed the need for clearer long-term EU policy to give companies confidence to buy early.

Promotional graphic for a webinar titled 'Is European Cleantech on track for decarbonisation and competitiveness?'. The graphic has a modern, clean design with a large, partially transparent circle overlaying a blurred image of technology or machinery, suggesting a focus on cleantech. The text is prominently displayed in the upper left corner with bold lettering, and abstract shapes in teal and pink add a dynamic feel to the visual.
In this webinar, we will examine what ECNO's analysis can tell us about the progress of the EU cleantech sector and the future of EU cleantech policy. As the European elections approach, and the global cleantech race only speeds up, finding an impactful European solution is increasingly necessary.

plastic
According to the European Commission, almost 26 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated annually in the EU. And since we learned how to produce plastic, humans have manufactured more than 8.3 billion tonnes of it – most of which ended up as a waste product somewhere on the planet. This process leads to plastic waste entering the landscape, rivers, beaches, and eventually ocean. So how can we possibly address a problem of this size?
