Green House Gas Emissions and EU Enlargement

August 2000 to December 2000

In the course of their accession to the European Union, the acceding countries have to implement the existing body of European rules (acquis communautaire). As a result, the level of their greenhouse gas emissions can be expected to be affected. In this project, the effects of the accession of Estonia, Poland, Slovenia, the Czech Republik and Hungary on their greenhouse gas emissions were assessed. The study analyses the effects the EU accession of Estonia, Poland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary may have on the greenhouse gas emissions of these countries.

1998 ODS Data in the European Union

Ecologic analysed and compared different sources of data on the production and trade in Ozone Depleting Substances. Reporting data on production, imports and exports of ozone depleting substances (ODS) is one of the most fundamental bases for checking compliance with the Montreal Protocol. There are different sources for generating the necessary data. The European Commission has generally relied on the reporting by producers and importers/exporters as required under Article 17 of Regulation (EC) 3093/94 to generate the needed information. These data have provided the basis for submitting the annual data required under Article 7 of the Montreal Protocol to the Secretariat of the Protocol in Nairobi. Read more

Kyoto Mechanisms and Compliance

The 1997 Kyoto Protocol to protect the global climate is an incomplete agreement. Many of its provisions require a further specification in order to make the Protocol ratifiable for countries. In this project, concrete options and proposals for the elaboration of the Kyoto Protocol were developed for the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.Read more
